Another cool ol' Heddon lure...

Here's a sample of another old Heddon artificial lure. This little cutie weighs a mere 1/4 ounce but casts like a bulit. The Sonic and it's bigger brother the Super Sonic were among the very first samples of the fast vibrating group of lures, so often manufactured to-day, by SO many tackle companies. You cold feel this little plug justa shaking, down there, on the end of your line and you knew the Walleyes and Bass could feel it too. :-)

May is progressing really quickly this year for me. I still have not harvested any Fiddleheads yet. That very likely means I'm too late for them for this year but I do have one shaded, higher elevation spot that I could check for late bloomers. Hmmm...

Get out there and breath that fresh air folks, it'll do you a world of good.

Lures and food

My walk after work, turned up this selection of fresh wild foods and a quiet place to lie down and look up at the sky...

Fishin' Tackle...

Here's a few more lures I Love.

Some of these old in-line spinners have caught a pile of fish in their day. Harder to find now but just as powerful on many species to-day as they were 30 or more years ago. I've pretty well retired the ol' Dardevle Spinner and the Toni here, as they are not made anymore to the best of my knowledge. That's reason enough for me. Besides the memories they contain, of fish caught, when and where. :-)

Daredevle

Heddon Toni

I've been tinkering with fishing lures for more than four decades and have come up with a number of little killer mods, as I call them. They are all geared towards soliciting more strikes from fish. I prefer to catch a fish on one of my modified fishing lures, than on one that is just "box stock", so to speak. I get a bigger charge out of that! :-)

Bearded Flatfish Mod

Well it's my belief anyway, that this unit really looks like a minnow struggling with a little muskrat or big moth or something, when you see it in the water. Struggling, turns Big fish on! This is a T50 Flatfish with an added tail spinner and a radical old hooking set-up, that teases, fools and lands the hogs...

Too bad Heddon didn't keep making this deadly little Spin Fin. I LOVE all the little design features incorporated into this awesome little pre-spinner-bait era spin-fin...

Original Heddon Spin Fin

Got some tin snips and a sheet of old metal? You can make yourself a metal plug that wiggles like a crank-bait, if you do. :-) Here's a pair of old boys that show their genius of design.

Metal Plugs

Yup, another old wooden Heddon creation here. More or less, customized to the hilt! This Rig ROCKS!

Old Vamp

Have a good one...

Bushin' it to-day...

Headin' up to the bush to-day for some R&R and to help buddy around his home on the lake. He's putting in some ponds with a waterfalls running and all! Lookin' forward to being up there in Quebec again, in the woods. I'll fill in more details here as they unfold...

I can hardly believe how awesome this little digi-cam is. I've mentioned in here before that this little point & shoot Pentax, ROCKS! Well, here's another test I gave it while on a road trip recently down highway #17. So, this was taken at a speed of roughly 50km per hour or about 30-35 miles per hour if you know the "old" way. :-) Anywho, shot right through a closed window at a fair distance, at pretty good speed. Results? Well, YOU tel me. Seriously, any comments are good comments to this ol' quillmiester. ;-)

For those of you who may recognize it, Cobden, Ontario, is where the moving scene captured here was shot. How many people have sat on the grass around that old pavilion to listen to music under the stars, over the years? This frame was captured with the assistance of the wonderful little E30 Optio, which I have been packin' around as my latest, koolest, EDC...

This old band-shell overlooks a lovely park and lake and I'm sure it would be a SUPER spot to swing the coil of one of my metal-detectors over. :-) Did I mention I love treasure hunting and metal detecting? :-)

More stuff...

...Another neat day to-day. Feels GOOD to be alive too!

How lucky most of us are, eh? Nice place to live, nice clothes to wear, car, a job to go to, someone who loves you, close by, and money in your pocket. Like, we got it all. :-)

Did I ever mention to you that I've been into cameras and photography for well over half my life? Well, I bought my first camera, a kool little Kodak Instamatic, point & shoot style, that came with a slick little carrying strap for your wrist and all, many, many years ago. I packed that little unit around with me in the bush and down along the banks of many Northern Ontario rivers and streams. It took a lot of neat snapshots, and I "Kodaked" an awful mess of live fish, so that I could share my memories with my friends and family when I got back home.

Over the years I've owned a number of other cameras and even three Cam-corders as well. Did I mention I was right into the art of Photography? :-) Here's a few recent pictures taken with my handy, dandy, Pentax, Optio...

Anyone out there like to hunt these puppys?

Wild (Ramp) Leeks

Some call 'em Ramps, and others call 'em Leeks, and others just say they smell... This plant has been a part of my Spring Tonic for over 30 years. Smell or no, these babies get ingested by this 'ol puppy every year and that's a fact. :-)

What SPRING walk would be complete without a hand full of the fresh and beautiful Violet leaves and blossoms?

Wild Violets

Here's the first furry critter spotted for '08 and of course, not in a very well lit place, just the way these bunnys like it though. ;-)

A Wild Rabbit Hippity Hop...

Lots of folks are familiar with this little sweety plant, that loves the edges of rich hardwood forests, but do they know that tons of people refer to them, as Adder's Tongues? Many plants have local names attributed to them, these Dog's Tooth Violets are one of them. Delicate blossoms, blush for YOU here, through my Pentax!

Adder's Tongue

One of the easiest Teas to get to know , identify and ingest, is of course, the semi-common little, Wild Straw-berry. Yup, easy and good for ya 2. Pick some this year, don't be afraid. ;-)

Wild Strawberry

This last plant ranks right up there near the very top of my wild edibles list, of all the things I consume from the Great Outdoors. I only know a few spots to harvest this Wild Asperagus, and I only take a few spears from each plant and only for a week or so. Sure got my dose of Spring Tonic into me so far...
